A Light or Smart Device Isn't Working¶
If you're unsure about any step, it's always fine to contact Daniel first.

💡 A Single Light Isn't Responding¶
Step 1 — Power cycle the bulb¶
Turn the light off at its switch, wait 5 seconds, turn it back on. This fixes most issues.
If the light doesn't have a switch (e.g. a pendant or fitting controlled only from Home Assistant), you'll need to cut power to the bulb itself:
- If you can reach the bulb: unscrew it, wait 5 seconds, screw it back in
- If you can't reach it: the lighting circuits are controlled from the fuse box above the door. Switch off the relevant circuit, wait 5 seconds, switch it back on. This will cut all lights on that circuit temporarily.
Step 2 — If the light still doesn't come on¶
It's likely the bulb has failed. Replace it with a spare — but don't throw the old one away. Daniel will want to check it when he's back.
👁️ A Motion Sensor Has Stopped Working¶
The lights in the hall, kitchen, and office are controlled by motion sensors mounted in the corners of the room. If the lights in one of those rooms have stopped coming on automatically, power cycle the sensor.
🔌 Kitchen or office sensor — USB powered¶
- Find the sensor in the corner of the room — it has a USB cable plugged into the back
- Pull the USB cable out
- Wait 5 seconds
- Plug it back in
- Wait 1 minute and check if the lights respond to movement again
Hallway sensor — Philips Hue (battery powered)¶
The hallway sensor runs on 2 × AAA batteries. If it has stopped working, the batteries may be flat.
Watch how to replace the batteries (YouTube){ target="_blank" }
- The sensor clips onto its mount — slide it off
- Open the battery compartment on the back
- Replace both AAA batteries
- Reattach the sensor to its mount
- Wait 1 minute and check if the lights respond to movement again
If new batteries don't fix it, contact Daniel.
One Radiator Isn't Heating¶
See the full guide: Central Heating — Radiator Valve (TRV) section
That page covers battery replacement, error codes, recalibration, and emergency manual override.
🪟 The Living Room Blind Isn't Working¶
The blind has a rechargeable battery. If it has stopped responding, it probably needs charging.
Step 1 — Remove the blind motor from the wall¶
- Find the small tab at the base of the blind motor unit
- Gently push the tab in and slide the unit upwards to release it from its bracket
Step 2 — Charge it¶
Plug a USB-C cable into the charging port and charge until full. A standard phone charger is fine.
Step 3 — Refit and reset the limits¶
Once charged, slide the motor back onto its bracket. The blind will need its open and closed positions reset before it works correctly again.
1 — Clear the existing settings
Press the Up and Down buttons at the same time and hold for 3 seconds, until the indicator light turns blue. Release. This wipes the old positions.
2 — Set the fully open position
- Use the Up or Down button to move the blind to the fully open position
- Press the Up button 5 times in quick succession
- The indicator light will turn blue and flash 3 times — this means it's saved ✅
3 — Set the fully closed position
- Use the Up or Down button to move the blind to the fully closed position
- Press the Down button 5 times in quick succession
- The indicator light will turn blue and flash 3 times — this means it's saved ✅
The blind should now work normally from Home Assistant again.
⚡ All Smart Devices Have Stopped at Once¶
If your smart lights, radiator valves, and the motorised blind have all stopped responding at the same time, the Zigbee Bridge in the living room has probably lost its connection.
